The Kindness Conspiracy: A Journey Beyond Niceness

Let’s start with a simple truth: there’s a big difference between being “nice” and being kind. Niceness is often about keeping things smooth, avoiding conflict, or saying what people want to hear. Kindness, on the other hand, takes courage. It’s about doing what’s right, even when it’s uncomfortable—especially when it’s uncomfortable.

Think about it: niceness can sometimes feel like a performance, while kindness requires action, even if it means confronting hard truths. For example, showing vulnerability—something society often frowns upon, especially for men—is a form of kindness to ourselves. Crying isn’t a sign of weakness; it’s human. And being kind to ourselves means embracing that humanity without judgment.

Kindness Over Niceness: The Real Payoff

Choosing kindness over niceness can be uncomfortable, but the reward? It’s huge. Kindness fills us with energy and creates genuine connections. It’s not about being perfect; it’s about being real. In my own journey, I’ve realized that kindness starts with honesty. Facing your fears, admitting your flaws, and forgiving yourself along the way—it’s these actions that matter most.

I want to challenge you today: choose to act kindly. The joy that follows won’t come from grand gestures but from those small, authentic moments of connection. Kindness, at its core, is about showing up—even when it’s hard. Even when it’s scary.

Facing Fear: My “Rejuvenation Olympics” Challenge

Recently, I took on a personal challenge that had me face my own anxieties—a “Rejuvenation Olympics” blood test to see my genetic age. Trust me, it wasn’t easy. The fear of what those results could reveal was real. But that’s the thing: kindness, including self-kindness, pushes us to grow, to look at the uncomfortable parts of ourselves and ask, “What can I learn from this?”

It’s not just about better health or numbers on a chart. It’s about living in alignment with who we really are, what we value, and how we want to show up in the world.

Living by Our Core Values

At the heart of it, kindness thrives when we live according to our core values—things like accountability, integrity, and empathy. When our actions align with these values, we not only feel better about ourselves but also inspire others to live more authentically.

One tool that’s helped me stay grounded is the “Wheel of Life” exercise. It’s a way to assess where you are across different areas of life—financially, emotionally, physically, and spiritually. When we find balance, we have more energy to give, more kindness to share.

Moving Forward

Niceness is easy. Kindness takes work. But it’s the kind of work that brings real joy and deeper connections. As you go about your day, remember that being kind isn’t about grand gestures—it’s about authenticity. It’s about being honest with yourself and others, even when it’s difficult.

So, here’s my question for you: What small act of kindness can you commit to today? Maybe it’s being honest with a friend, or finally showing yourself a little compassion.

In the end, living kindly is how we tap into our own well-being. It’s how we align our energy, our joy, and our purpose. And trust me, the world could use more kindness conspiracies like that.

Over and out, Nico.
